It’s the momentum, not me

“It’s the momentum, not me!” he shouted back over his shoulder as he hopped down a rocky trail the rest of us were cautiously navigating, one foot in front of the other. I couldn’t help but think how that seemed exactly like what many of my clients seem to experience: a sense of being swept along with everything that’s going on around them. In this case nothing bad happened: everyone in our group made it down the hill in one piece, even the rock hopper. But my clients report missing opportunities to progress what they are passionate about because they are exhausted from juggling the many inputs and expectations from all directions. They are working more than they want to, and sometimes they’re still thinking about work even when they are not working. But they know they can change this. They just don’t know how.

So people find me asking for help to create a little calm, some headspace. They want to be able to choose what they focus on. That is the only way they can drive their most important goals forward rather than jumping in and out of everybody else’s. Seeing the work that they chose come to fruition gives them an immense sense of achievement and peace of mind.

The hardest part is often to break out of that feeling of being swept along by the momentum of everything happening around you. To be able to step back so you can see what your most important things are and what action you could take. If you would like to choose your own focus and create your own momentum, let’s talk. Maybe I can help you.

Or email me if you prefer!
